FAQ

How much do you cost?

As you may have noticed, no prices are listed on this website. This is because every booking is unique, and the prices will vary depending on a range of factors. Generally speaking, it will be more expensive to hire me on a Friday or Saturday night, or to hire me during peak season. Other factors include how long I will be performing, how far I will have to travel for the event, and how much preparation is required.

To discuss your requirements and get a quote, please complete a customer enquiry form or call me on 0450 467 954. Where an enquiry is received in writing, I will usually respond within 24 hours.

I’ve shopped around and found cheaper quotes than the one you provided. Why are you more expensive?

Like many things, you get what you pay for. If you want somebody in a tacky playing card waistcoat with a flashing bow tie, then I am probably not the magician for you.

While I am not the cheapest magician on the market, I am not the most expensive either. I consider myself a professional that can be relied upon to turn up on time, and get people laughing and feeling that increasingly rare childlike state of wonder!

What sort of magic do you perform?

All my magic is close up and varied. You may see magic performed with cards, coins, fire, silks, rubber bands, borrowed rings, and bright red sponge balls to name but a few items. You may even see some magic involving kiwi fruit, balloons, and even a nail and hammer.

Do you perform at children’s parties?

No. Children have very different needs when it comes to entertainment, and the magic that works for children is very different to the magic that works for adults. The magic I perform is aimed specifically at adults, and as such, much of what I do or say would simply go right over the heads of younger audiences.

If you are looking for a children's entertainer however, please let me know. I have magician friends who either specialise purely in children's magic, or who perform for both adults and children, and I would be more than happy to recommend one of them to you.

There will be some children at the event, do you do any children’s magic?

Although I do not perform at children’s parties, I understand that at private parties and weddings there will often be a handful of children. As such, I always have a few effects that will keep the younger audiences amused and mystified. As stated previously however, my focus will always be on the adults.

How far do you travel and where are you based?

I am based in Perth, Western Australia and this is where the majority of my work takes place. While I am happy to travel outside of Perth, this will usually involve an extra fee. Over the past year I have performed at both private parties and Corporate events in Bunbury, Dunsborough and Eagle Bay. Should you be interested in hiring me for an event outside of Perth, please contact me so we can discuss the details further.

We are expecting a lot of guests. Will you be able to perform for everybody?

Should I consider the event to be too big to handle alone, I know other talented magicians who I can call upon to help me cover the floor, ensuring everyone gets a good dose of magic. I can organise these additional magicians myself, and of course, I can personally vouch for every one of them.

When do we need to make a booking?

Generally, the earlier you book me the better, so as to avoid disappointment. This is especially true in the lead up to Christmas, when bookings can start coming in as early as August.

Bookings on short notice are less common, but do sometimes occur. To see if I’m available, please give me a call, or complete the customer enquiry form.

Can we see you perform in advance?

Due to restrictions of time, this is usually not possible. It is my hope that the testimonials, client list, and photographs on this website will speak for themselves. Should you wish to speak to someone that has hired me in the past, I’d be happy to provide you with references who you can contact to get their unbiased opinion.

If you are still not certain, then please go ahead and ask me – I may be able to bend this rule a little and give you a quick close-up demonstration, free of charge.

Please also note that I will eventually add some videos to this website, which will feature me performing. Stay tuned.

Can you provide me with any references?

Absolutely. I have performed for hundreds of people and I’m sure that every one of them would be happy to provide a glowing reference. Alternatively, please feel free to browse through the client testimonials, which feature the many comments left by happy customers.

Are you able to perform for foreign guests or the hearing impaired...?

Yes, I can (and have) entertained people who do not speak English, or who happened to be hearing impaired. One of the beautiful things about magic is that it can be so visual that words are simply not needed, which means that language barriers can be overcome. This premise, coupled with some basic visual communication, means that many of my effects can be performed entirely without words, and incredibly, the magic remains just as strong!

I have performed magic informally in China, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru, and have found this to be the case every single time.

...And can you compete against lots of background noise?

Yes, and no. I believe that there is a big difference between performing for someone who doesn’t speak English, and performing for someone where it’s a challenge to hear anything at all.

While I can perform a lot of magic without words, much of the entertainment value comes from the bad jokes I make, the sounds made by the cards, and the little things that are shared between me and the spectators. As a result, where the background noise is excessive, I believe that the impact of any magician is diminished.

So how much background noise is acceptable? If I can speak with a raised voice and be heard, then no problem. If however, I have to scream over loud music and into someone’s ear, well, that may be too much!

What happens if you can’t make my event due to illness or unforeseen circumstances?

It is very rare for me to ever miss or be late for a scheduled booking – in fact, to date this has never happened!

Because I am well organised and treat each job professionally, I can assure you that the only thing that would prevent me from turning up without forewarning, would be an unexpected injury or accident. In the unlikely event that something should happen to me, I would make every effort to find you a replacement magician of comparable ability and experience.

Rest assured it would be most unlikely for me to not make an event which I had previously committed to.

Are you a member of any professional body?

I am a member of the West Australian Society of Magicians (WASM), having initially been inducted in 2003.

Between 2004 and 2006, I was a member of the Canberra ring of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Will my details remain confidential?

Of course. I will only ask you for the details I need to ensure that I can give you the most appropriate quote, and the best possible show. I will never pass on your details without your prior consent. At the most, I may ask if you’d mind acting as a referee, or if I can quote you on my testimonials page. Your privacy will always be assured and respected.
